Electric Cars--Free Juice?

Personally and logically, I believe the whole idea that global warming is man-made is a bunch of crap. Sure, there is global warming to a minor extent, but it ain't man-made. It still isn't as hot as it was 70 years ago. My grandfather told me a lot about the dustbowl days and we aren't even close to that. Have you ever heard of that little thing in the sky called the sun? A minor blip in its output vastly overshadows anything humans could muster up, even if we did it on purpose. Do the math.

The whole global warming hysteria is simply a neat way to redistribute money from those who work their butts off to to those who want to get over, i.e., the U.S. money going to everyone else. If we simply recovered all the money through foreclosure the U.S. has lent to every third world county that has never repaid its loans, the U.S. would cover three quarters of the land mass on the planet.

OK, its a circuitous route to my subject today, but we're getting there. All this global warming hysteria has led people to believe we need to use hybrid or electric vehicles. I'll save the hybrid subject for another day, but onto the electric car myth.

All this leads me to wonder how people think that driving an electric car is a free ride, i.e, plugging it in isn't going to cost you anything. Who's paying your electric bills? Is electricity free? If it is, then you a living in a socialist country, because I have to pay an electric bill every month that rivals my fuel bills. I'd hate to think what it would be like if I had to plug a power hog in like a car. Never mind the fact they barely have enough range to get me to the grocery store--forget me getting home. Then there's the issue of insurance and safety. Ever thought of what you are driving if you're driving an electric car? Batteries. Lots of batteries. Do you know what happens when you break one of those batteries open? Its not good. Makes a ruptured gas tank look tame. Then there's the issue of high voltage lines running through the car. Ever notice how scary downed power lines are? Now think about something akin to them running through your car. Nasty!

Nothing in life worth having is free. Particularly electricity.

Oh, yeah. Think about this. The environmental wackos (great term!) want us all to drive electric cars, right? Then why do these same people want to shutdown every electric plant they possibly can? They want to drain Lake Powell to restore the ecosystem. They don't want coal powered plants. They don't want nuclear plants. They don't like wind power (wind turbines do a nasty number on birds). Do they think electricity grows on trees? (If it did, they wouldn't want us to touch it, guaranteed.) What exactly do they want us to do then?
